• Immediately following the midnight release of Grand Theft Auto IV on Monday, April 29, 2008 the Mahalo video games team played through the game and had live video. The GTA4 video streaming event had two channels: one showing a video walkthrough of the single-player portion of the game, and another featuring online multiplayer gameplay. Mahalo holds similar events for other major video game releases as well.

    In Grand Theft Auto IV you take the role of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European who begins the game by traveling to Liberty City in hopes that his cousin Roman has strong financial prospects for him. It is immediately discovered that Roman, despite his promises, merely runs a Taxi company, and needs Niko to act as a strongarm for him in various shady dealings.The game then proceeds into the classic Grand Theft Auto formula: you encounter numerous shady characters, embark on missions involving drugs, robberies, cash, etc. The game reportedly takes about 40 hours to complete the main campaign, and an additional 25 hours for all of the additional side quests, for a total of 65 hours of gameplay.

    Grand Theft Auto IV ships with full multiplayer capability, supporting 16 people at a time over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Multiplayer modes include varieties such as "Cops and Crooks", "Deathmatch" and "Racing". Players will be able to access the game's multiplayer mode by taking out the in-game cellphone and then signing in. Deatchmatch mode will allow players to travel all throughout Liberty City, killing anyone in sight. Weapons include vehicles, rocket launchers, handguns, uzis, and other varieties. Mafiya Work, another mode in the game, has players compete to finish missions before other players. Players with the most money at the end of the session win. Cops and Crooks has two teams play as either the police or the criminals, and each attempt to thwart the efforts of the other. Race mode lets players choose a route, gather weapons and race each other through the Liberty City streets to the finish line.
