There are five different women that a player can date throughout Grand Theft Auto 4, which can unlock different achievements. One of the achievements is called "Warm Coffee" ,which a player receives when the girl invites Niko into her house and sleeps with him. The player can take his date out bowling, play pool or go to a bar. Their opinions are influenced by the type of car the player drives, his clothing and what venue he takes them to. Each girl has a specific place that she enjoys the most, so to score points with the ladies, the player must know what each of them likes.

Unlike the past Grand Theft Auto games, Nico is directly affected emotionally by his crimes. The player witnesses his progression into madness and regret throughout GTA IV.

The map from Grand Theft Auto IV is the most extensive map in the Grand Theft Auto series yet, It covers the fictionalized Liberty City (based off of New York City, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and even parts of Jersey). Before asking for a date, the player should be aware that after he calls a girl, he must pick her up within 1 hour (2 minutes in real-life). After the date is over, that girl won’t be available for 5 hours (10 minutes in real-life).
