There’s something for everyone at Brussels’ Grand Place. Whether you are looking to see some great architecture from 3 different eras, Baroque, Gothic and Louis XIV, try one of Belgium’s various beers, or do some shopping, the Grand Place is full of fun and excitement.
The Grand Place was originally built in the 15th century and rebuilt and restored after the fire of Brussels in 1695. The Grand Place was once a market place where locals sold and bought food. For this reason, many of the surrounding streets are named after foods like chicken (poulet), herbs (herbes), and cheese (fromage). The Grand Palace is also home to the city's free concerts, fairs, parades and pageants that take place throughout the year. During a visit to the Grand Place, one can visit the magnificent town hall, which still plays a political role in Brussels today. The square is also where the City Museum is located as well as several smaller museums. http://www.brussels.info/grand-place
