    Grambling State University opened as the colored industrial and agricultural school on November 1, 1901. The institution was renamed to the North Louisiana agricultural and industrial school in 1905. After several name changes, the institution became Grambling College in 1946, then in 1976 it was finally named Grambling State University to reflect its higher education status. Gram.edu: History
