Clint Eastwood, who had previously composed score music for Million Dollar Baby, also contributed to the Grace Is Gone soundtrack. The film, starring John Cusack, is about a father who takes his two daughters on a cross-country trip in preparation of telling them their mother died serving in Iraq.

Eastwood earned Golden Globe nominations for "Best Original Score," and also "Best Original Song" with Carole Bayer Sager for co-writing the soundtrack's title song. Jamie Cullum, The Boy Least Likely To and Everybody Else also contributed to the album.
