History
All U.S. Government websites have the .gov extension so that they can be unified as official sources of specific government information. Online government communication is one of the government services overseen by the U.S. General Services Administration. GSA was established in 1949 under President Harry S. Truman with the signing of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act.
The administration introduced its employees to the Internet and intranet in 1996.
They launched the U.S. Government's offical web portal, FirstGov.gov in 2000.
