The Dietary Problem of Gout
Doctor Lawrence Dorman recommends increasing water intake and eliminating carbonated drinks, alcohol, and teas. A high pH water is useful in cleaning out the excess uric acid. Even diet sods need to be avoided due to phosphoric acids. The doctor recommends a vegetarian diet and eating a lot of cherries which help to eliminate the uric acid from the body.

Liquid Foods to Avoid: Alcohols
Beer and wine are high in purines, causing them to be added to the gout foods to avoid list. Alcohols in general prevent the body from excreting uric acids that leaves the body with an excess that may ultimately cause a gout flare up..http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gout/DS00090/DSECTION=prevention
Sugar and Fructose
A study monitored more than 46,000 men over 12 years tracking incidents of gout in relationship to the consumption of sugar sweetened soft drinks. These drinks contain low levels of purine but have high amounts of fructose, which is the only carbohydrate known to increase uric acid levels. The study concluded the high fructose levels increased gout attacks. Fruit juice and fructose rich fruits like apples and oranges also caused a higher risk of gout. Increasing intake of sugar sweetened soft drinks was associated with an increasing risk of gout. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/590641
