Goree Girls is a musical film about prison inmates who are also country-western singers. The film is produced by Jennifer Aniston, who also performs as one of the singer inmates. Gerard Butler is rumored to play the role of Paul Mitchell, an inmate that married one of the singers.
The idea for the musical came from a Texas Monthly article titled "O Sister Where Art Thou" by author Skip Hollandsworth, which is said to be partially true.Cinematical: ...Jennifer Aniston Goree Girls? (November 20, 2008)
The Goree Girls
Eight female inmates, of the Goree Prison in Texas, formed a country and western singing group in the 1940s. Most of the women had never taken vocal lessons or played an instrument. Their singing was aired live on a Fort Worth radio station on Wednesday evenings. The group disolved when the woman were released from prison after serving time for theft, murder and cattle rustling.
