Gordon B. Hinckley was the 15th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Under Hinckley's leadership, the church accelerated the construction of church facilities nationwide, including temples and other formal worship centers. He gave over 2000 public speeches as church president, and published 12 books—mostly containing religious instruction—throughout his lifetime.

- June 23, 2004: Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush

- January 4, 2008: Makes his last public appearance during a rededication of the Utah State Capitol
- January 27, 2008: Dies at age 97 in Salt Lake City
