According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon Wireless and Google are in negotiations to develop a Verizon phone using a Google operating system. Currently, T-Mobile is the only United States carrier with a phone running Google's open source Android operating system. Verizon CFO Doreen Toben called T-Mobile's Google-powered G1 "lacking compared to the iPhone" but an official Verizon spokesperson later amended the statement, saying "We're extremely pleased with our customers’ response to the T-Mobile G1."Wall Street Journal: Verizon Talks Smack About the iPhone, G1 (October 27, 2008)
