Google began a tradition of Aprils Fools jokes in 2000 with the pseudo-release of its MentalPlex technology, which would reportedly read the user's brainwaves and eliminate the need to even type in the search request. 2006 April Fools' Joke

This year, Google's joke was called "Google Romance". The service was said to be a special version of its search engine tailored to single people who might be looking up information about their potential date and/or significant other. As a specialized search service, Google's faux Romance feature was said to be a breakthrough for single people everywhere concerned about who they were dating.
