Google Global Privacy Standard

    • Peter Fleischer, Google's Global Privacy Counsel, introduced the proposal at UNESCO's conference on [http: //portal.unesco.org/ci/en/ev.php-URL_ID=24772&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html Ethics and Human Rights in International Society].
    • Google's proposal is modeled on the [http: //www.apecsec.org.sg/apec/news___media/fact_sheets/apec_privacy_framework.html Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Privacy Framework].
    • The nine principles guiding the APEC Framework include: preventing harm, integrity of personal information, notice, security safeguards, collection limitations, access and correction, uses of personal information, accountability and choice.
  • September 14, 2007, Strasbourg, France: Google called on the United Nations to help protect the privacy of web surfers worldwide, "partly by law and partly be self-regulation," before the internet faces a "crisis of confidence."
