The Google search engine was launched in September of 1998, making 2008 the company's 10th "birthday" celebration. The exact date of the site's launch has, according to the website itself, been shifted around slightly over the years.
In September 2008, Google launched the Web site Google 10th Birthday. The Web site includes a timeline with important Google dates and background on the site and its creation. The 10th birthday celebration also included the launching of the Project 10 to the 100th, which will reward ideas that could improve the world and help humans. The project rewards up to 5 ideas with a total of $10 million which goes to implementation of the projects.

Until 2005, Google celebrated its birthday on September 7, the date the company was incorporated.
