  • The 2005 American film Good Night, and Good Luck depicts the events and actions of television journalist Edward R. Murrow during the Cold War era communist scare in the 1950's. The film explores Murrow and his relationship with Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. Edward R. Murrow, who is portrayed by David Strathairn, uses his position at CBS News to publicly question and discredit McCarthy's attempt to locate American Communists. While this is in stark contrasts to the wishes of the corporate sponsors, CBS News continues to back Murrow and his staff. Senator McCarthy would challenge Murrow's patriotism and label him as a Communist along with several others.
