The Goo Goo Dolls are a pop-leaning alternative rock band from Buffalo, New York, comprised of Johnny Rzeznik (vocals/guitar), Robby Takac (vocals/bass), and Mike Malinin (drums). Though Takac was the original lead singer, Rzeznik took over after the first few albums. The single "Name" from their fifth studio album, A Boy Named Goo, provided the band with their first commercial success. The album went multi-platinum, but the Goo Goo Dolls were in a bitter fight with their record label Metal Blade Records over an unfair contract at the time.
Their follow up album, Dizzy Up the Girl was released on Warner Brothers Records and included the smash hit "Iris" among other popular singles, solidifying the Goo Goo Dolls' status as a mainstream success.
