Golden Retrievers originated in Scotland and were bred as hunting dogs. They are one of the most popular breeds to keep as pets in the United States.
Retrievers are energetic and playful, but do not require the constant attention of Border Collies. They get calmer with age, and puppies may be wiry and pre-disposed to chew.

Activites
Golden retrievers are notable for their significant intelligence and active outdoor behavior. The dogs are natural retrievers and especially like running through water. Dog agility training may help the breed focus their energy and improve their ability to retrieve flying discs.Breeders indicate that Golden Retrievers can adeptly learn over 200 commands. Positive reinforcement helps make these functions habit.
Health Problems
Retrievers are more prone to genetic disorders and cancers than many other breeds. More than 60% of Retriever deaths are cancer-related, according to the Golden Retriever Club of America. The breed is also prone to allergies and should be frequently groomed to avoid fleas.
