The God of War Collection is a Playstation 3 re-release of Playstation 2 games God of War and God of War 2 . It was released in November, 2009 in the US, and will be released Q2 2010 in Europe.

God of War is the first installment of the series, and was originally released for Playstation 2. Main character is Kratos, an ash-colored tattooed man, who agreed to serve Ares in return for sparing his life during a lost battle. Through Ares, Kratos receives above-human powers and weapons. His "Blades of Chaos", which will become his signature weapons during the course of the games are two blades on chains, which he can swing around. Ares commands Kratos to build an army and conquer Greece. After a period of loyal service, Ares tricks Kratos into attacking a loyal to Athena. As Kratos obeys, he finds out he murdered his own own family, living in the village. During the game, the player controls Kratos as he pleads with the gods in an attempt to absolve his sins, and getting revenge on Ares.

The God of War game received universal critical acclaim including many Game of the Year awards and IGN's best Playstation 2 action game of all time.

The second installment, God of War 2, continues the story of Kratos, who became "God of War" replacing Ares at the conclusion of part one. However, Kratos is again betrayed by the gods, and turns to the titans to wage war on the gods of Olympus.
