God of War 3

God of War 3 is the fifth installment in the God of War franchise and the third in the main series. The game is an exclusive release for Sony's PS3-exclusive, and is released on March 17, 2010. In contrast to earlier announcements, Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that this will not be the final installment of the God of War franchise, even though the "God of War" story arc was created as a trilogy.

In March 2007, prior to leaving Sony, God of War II game director Cory Barlog confirmed that God of War 3 was in development. He revealed that the game would run at full 1080p HD resolution and would support the PS3 controller's tilt and vibration functions. On December 17, 2009 the God of War 3: Ultimate Trilogy Edition was announced on the EU PlayStation Blog. The Trilogy Ultimate Edition package will be released in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

God of War 3 plays on a more massive scale than its predecessors, while staying true to its hack-and-slash origin. It features all main attributed well known from the rest of the series, including hordes of minions, god-sized bosses, Quick Time Events, and puzzles. According to reviews, all elements have been smoothened, making gameplay more intuitive. Quick Time Event buttons have been placed on their respective side of the screen, allowing players to focus on the on-screen action, instead of on identifying the required buttons.

God of War 3's world is four times larger than previous installments, allowing for longer playtime. Weapons are the Blades of Exile, which is Kratos' signature weapon, the Blades of Athena, the Claws of Hades, the Nemesis Whip, and the Nemean Cestus. With the Cestus, Kratos is able to smash through solid objects such as rocks.

Several sources have hinted on a possibility of a future DLC (Downloadable Content) to become available for God of War 3, which would include a multiplayer option. The strongest hint at a possible multiplayer Kratos, is a Sony America job ad, seeking "online gameplay programmer to join the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles God of War and God of War II". Website Eurogamer.net requested comments from Sony, but they were unable to comment on the subject. However, Eurogamer found the same ad on a SCEA jobs page, inlcuding the following text: "This job description may exist simply to gather interest, and may or may not ever become an approved open position."http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/god-of-war-iii-to-have-multiplayer

Another indication is a side-note in a french Official Playstation Magazine, stating "Du Multi Pour Kratos!", translating "Multiplayer for Kratos!". Of course, this could also be a well times April's fools day joke..http://www.psfocus.nl/2_14750_0_God_of_War_III_krijgt_een_multiplayer.aspx

According to Jack Tretton, from Sony, the release of God of War 3 may actually lead to a shortage in Playstation 3 consoles. The game is sold both separately, and in a combination package with a new Playstation 3. Tretton stated:

“It’s not ideal, I won’t kid you, but I firmly believe we’ll get our hardware back in stock and keep selling God of War III for a long time.”http://ps3.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12149

The God of War 3 Platinum Trophy is reported to point to a mysterious webpage, called "Spartans Stand Tall". The webpage currently has little information on it, showing a gray background with rain splattering on it, and round image on the right top, resembling a shield. The shield has a ring around it, which is currently filled red for one quarter.

As of now, the screen has no additional functionality, which leads to speculation on the Internet.

Update: The a week after its discovery, the website has changed slightly. The rain has become more dense, leading to more splatter on screen, and the 'timer' has now filled up half of the circle in the right-hand top corner. No additional functionality is yet featured, but the timing indicates two more cycles before a true event, which might appear mid-April.http://www.godofwar.com/spartansstandtall/
