God of War 3 was released on March 16, 2010 and does include a sex scene. The scene takes place in Aphrodite's Chamber. Every previous God of War game to date has seen Kratos indulge in a menois a trios with two topless maidens. In God of War III, Kratos has to satisfy just one woman – but she is a goddess. Quite late in the game, Kratos encounters a goddess and her two handmaidens. All three are topless and caressing each other. During the sex scene sequence between Kratos and the goddess, the game view focuses on the two hand maidens watching. The two hand maidens constantly talk about how they wished it was them. The ESRB described the sex minigame within God of War III as: "Players will encounter a goddess and her two hand maidens, all topless, all holding and caressing each other. If players wish to, they may join the goddess (and only the goddess) in bed. Actual sex is never depicted as the camera drifts, then fixes on the two maidens, who watch from a distance. As players respond to the on-screen prompts with button presses, the topless maidens will continue to watch, and sometimes caress. Though he didn't confirm its existence, God of War III's game director Stig Asmussen spoke about the sex minigame situation in the latest issue of Game Informer Magazine, which was leaked onto the web on February 11, 2009. A quote appears below:

The sex mingame is an interesting thing because you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. A lot of that stuff, we've got to worry about the ESRB. If we don't add something to it, then people are just going to say, 'Oh they just did that again' and it's going to be silly. But if we don't do it at all, people are going to say 'Where the hell is the sex minigame?'

At a later press conference where the existence of the God of War 3 Sex Minigame was confirmed, Asmussen said "It was more a debate between me and several of the story writers. I was like, 'I'd rather not have it in there at all.'" When asked what the purpose of the sex minigame was he said "You asked a very fine question, and I felt sort of the same way. What is the point? If we do it, it has to have a point. Women like sex too... I don't know, it's not like we're doing a porno or something," he said.

Asmussen went on to say, "I definitely think about the female audience when I think about violence against females, though. "We always try to do (the sex) in a way where the woman had a choice, and we wouldn't want to do something like a rape scene or anything like that. All of the previous God of War games, including the PSP release, God of War: Chains of Olympus have included sex mingames. Though the games do feature brief nudity, they do not show graphic sex scenes. Instead the camera pans off to the side and lets the audio do the story-telling. Each of the games have featured Kratos having sex with two women at the same time.
