In hockey, we don’t often see goalies in a brawl however it does happen occasionally. As a rule, the goalies are important team members. For that reason, they very rarely get into fights. One such time was last Sunday, March 21, 2010, when two USHL goalie’s got into it just before the end of overtime. The goalie from the Green Bay Gamblers, Steve Summerhays, and the goalie from the Chicago Steel, Nick Pisellini, were the principles in the fight. Their timing could not have been worse as it happened right before the shootout to finish the game. Both goalie’s received penalties that spanned over the remainder of the game, leaving it to their respective understudies to finish the shootout.
Each of the goalies received a 5 minute penalty for fighting, 10 minutes for equipment misconduct and suspension from the remainder of the game. Ryan McKay of the Green Bay Gamblers outshot Connor Wilson of the Chicago Steel 4-3 for the game.
Apparently, this is not the first time that Steve Summerhays and Nick Pisellini have got into a fight. In fact, this is the second time. Nick Pisselini has a reputation as a brawler, and Steve Summerhays two previous scuffles were with Nick Pisselini, once in April 2009 and a second time on February 9, 2010. After the game, Steve bragged to the press that “That was the third time we have fought. Everyone kind of knew we would fight as it was the last time we were going to meet. I think everyone wanted to see it. We are good friends off the ice, but competitors on.”
The Green Bay Gamblers are moving on to the USHL Anderson Cup competition, which is a junior-level amateur league for players 20 years old and younger. The Chicago Steel were in second last place in the division. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Goalie-fights-are-the-greatest-way-to-sta?urn=nhl,229625
