Goa is the smallest state by size in India. Known for its beaches, the state is located on the west coast of the region. The capital of the state is Panaji (traditionally called Panjim) and its cities find their historical influence from the Portuguese. The state is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.
Geography of Goa
Goa is part of the coastal region of Konkan and is connected to the Mandovi, Zuari, Terekhol, Chapora and Betul rivers. Because of the rivers, the state is rich in minerals which aid in agriculture. Placed near the Arabian Sea the humid climate is found year round with a quick season of coolness between mid-December and February. Due to the climate, monsoons occur providing heavy but necessary rainfall.
Areas of Interest
Architecture blending the Portuguese and Italian styles detail most of the churches and monuments in Goa. For those not necessarily interested in art or historical structures, sporting is also of interest. Football is the most popular sport in the state and home to many of the India Football League's premiere divisions.
