Google services, including Gmail, reportedly suffered outages across the world on September 1, 2009. The services were reportedly restored for some users according to a statement released by Google around 8:00 a.m. PST, but wide-spread outages continued throughout the afternoon.http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/09/01/gmail-now-really-down-can-i-get-my-email-back-please/
Previous outages were reported in May of 2009 and August of 2008.

May 2009 Outage

"Earlier today, Google News was temporarily unavailable for many users from approximately 3:30 a.m. until around 7 a.m. Pacific Time. This issue has now been resolved ... August 2008 Outage
On Monday, August 11, 2008, Gmail users were unable to log into their accounts for more an hour. Users received a "Temporary Error (502)" message when trying to log in. According to reports, if users were already logged into their accounts prior to the service outage they were able to view messages received in their inbox. However, they were unable to send an outgoing message and received an error message when they attempted to send.Official Message From Gmail 2008
