GM Closes Four Truck Plants

  • On June 3, 2008, General Motors announced it was stopping production at four of its North American assembly plants by 2010. All of the plants affected manufacture SUV's and pickup trucks.

    GM says the plants it will close are located in Ohio, Wisconsin, Canada and Mexico.

  • Gas Prices and SUV's

    GM is also reportedly considering stopping production of its Hummer sport utility vehicle and shifting focus toward its smaller cars. Company chairman Rick Wagoner said rising gas prices are "changing consumer behavior and changing it rapidly."

    Sales of the company's more popular SUV's, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Trailblazer have been declining as prices at the pump continue to climb.
