Glory Movie

Glory is a dramatic film starring Denzel Washington, Matthew Broderick and Morgan Freeman. Glory follows the formation of one of the first all African American infantries in the U.S. Civil War, the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts. It is a volunteer unit under the command of the white Colonel Robert Gould Shaw.

The movie earned more than $26 million and was the recipient of three Academy Awards. The movie won the Academy of Motion Picture Award for Best Supporting Actor (Denzel Washington) along with Best Cinematography and Best Sound Awards. In addition to Academy Awards, Glory was recognized for the performance by Denzel Washington for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and nominated for British Academy of Film and Television Arts Best Cinematography award. Glory is based on a true story. The 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, headed by Col. Robert Gould Shaw was an all black volunteer infantry during the Civil War. Fighting in a war which was based on abolishing slavery and intended to provide freedom to the race, the black men face a war against both the opponent and within their own side of the fight as they battle the racism among their own comrades. Composer James Horner arranged music which was performed by the Boys Choir of Harlem.
