Gloria Gaynor is a singer best known for disco hits in the late 1970s. Her song "I Will Survive" reached number one on Billboards Hot 100 chart in 1979. The song also earned her the first (and only) Best Disco Recording Grammy Award ever given in 1980.
Gaynor became a born again Christian in 1982, and devoted herself to her faith. She released the album I Am Gloria Gaynor in 1984, which included the single "I Am What I Am", a song that became popular with gay community. In the late 1980s, Gaynor began performing at AIDS benefits.
In 1993, Gaynor told the British tabloid The Sun that she felt "homosexuality is an abomination." The comment drew much criticism.
Gaynor released her 14th album I Wish You Love in 2006.
