Glen Beck: The Overton Window
Glenn Beck, a political commentator of radio and television, has announced that he is writing a novel called The Overton Window. The book is an adult novel set in an alternative universe America similar to our own, with confused citizens and a governmental crisis in progress. http://gawker.com/5505498/glenn-becks-novel-title-revealed
The book’s title is currently set to be We Are Americans: The Overton Window which includes a term that is in use by political scientists. http://washingtonindependent.com/80738/glenn-becks-new-novel-the-overton-window
The term "Overton Window" refers to a concept of political theory and defines and area of political possibilities as indicated by public reactions. The idea was named after Joseph P Overton, the former senior Vice President of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, who defined a method for moving the window’s position in public opinion. His theory was that by promoting ideas that are less acceptable than some ideas that are on the extreme fringe of political possibility will make the fringe ideas able to move from the fringe area into areas that would make them politically feasible. http://www.correntewire.com/the_overton_window_illustrated
Synopsis of The Overton Window
In comments made by Beck in his American Revival rally in Orlando, Fl parts of his upcoming novel have been revealed. http://theweek.com/article/index/201359/Glenn_Becks_apocalyptic_new_novel The basic story line appears to be about a group called the Founders Keepers which is a citizens group dealing with the problems of a government in crises. One of the central characters is purported to be a Public Relations executive who discovers that his girlfriends supposedly outlandish conspiracy theories are actually true. This places him in a position where he is trying to stop a secret plot by the government intended to destroy the country. The culmination is that the country ends up in a series of battles and a civil war that turns life upside down over the entire world. Critics have likened what they know of the book to Ayn Rand stories with violence added. http://theweek.com/article/index/201359/Glenn_Becks_apocalyptic_new_novel
