Glen Coffee

Glen Coffee is a running back for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He was born Glenwood Razeem Coffee on May 1, 1987 in Elgin, Florida. He stands 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds, and wears jersey number 29. He was drafted in the 3rd round (74th overall) by the 49ers in the 2009 NFL Draft. He attended the University of Alabama, where majored in general studies. Coffee was an All-SEC Selection in his senior year, as well as a Doak Walker award semi-finalist. He graduated from Fort Walton Beach high school in Florida, where he helped lead his team to a disctict 2-4A title.

Coffee served as a backup to All-Pro running back Frank Gore in 2009. He played in 14 games, starting two of them, and racked up 226 rushing yards on 83 carried, while scoring one touchdown on the ground. His role was primarily as a special teams contributor in his rookie campaign.

In 2010 Coffee was expected to serve a similar role. The 49ers drafted hard-nosed back Anthony Dixon in the 2010 NFL Draft, and Coffee was supposed to compete with him for playing time behind Frank Gore. Announced Retirement

On August 13, 2010, Coffee announced that he would be retiring from the NFL. Prior to the announcement, Coffee had gained 10 pounds of muscle in preparation for the 2010 NFL Season. On August 5, San Francisco head coach Mike Singletary was quoted as saying that Coffee would be competing with fellow running back Anthony Dixon for the backup role to starter Frank Gore. Commenting on the possibility of playing behind Gore, Coffee said, "Frank does everything right, so it's easy to take things and try to learn from that. You always want to learn from someone who has established himself as a great running back in the league. College Career

Coffee made his collegiate debut with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2005, playing in 13 games. He finished his freshman season with 48 carries for 179 rushing yards and one touchdown. He returned to the Crimson Tide in 2007, playing in nine games and recording 129 carries for 545 rushing yards and four touchdowns. In 2008, Coffee played in all 14 games with Alabama, helping the team finish with a 12-0 regular season record. He recorded career-high numbers, totaling 233 carries for 1,383 rushing yards and ten touchdowns.
