  • Gladys Knight is a soul singer and actress. She is famous for her Motown hits from the 1960s and 1970s with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips. Since 1978, she has also released nine solo albums. Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and her 1973 #1 hit with the Pips, "Midnight Train to Georgia" remains her signature track (though she did not write it).
  • Mormonism

    One of few public figures who is both African-American and Mormon, Knight is a director of the Mormon gospel choir Saints Unified Voices, with whom she has recorded two albums: One Voice, which won the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Choir Album of 2005, and its follow-up, 2006's A Christmas Celebration.
