Givenchy is a high end French fashion line of clothing, perfumes, cosmetics and accessories, founded in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy.
Hubert de Givenchy was born in 1927 in Beauvais, France. When he was seventeen he moved to Paris, France to become a fashion designer. He apprenticed with Jacque Fath, Robert Piquet, Lucien Lelong and at at the Elsa Schiapareli salon.
In 1952 Givenchy launched his separates line of light skirts and puff-sleeved blouses that were made from raw cotton. Up until then, raw cotton was only used for fittings. Two years later Hubert de Givenchy presented a luxury ready-to-wear line of clothing for women bringing fashion to the streets. Women from all over wanted to wear Givenchy clothing. The Givenchy best dressed women list includes Lauren Bacall, Babe Paley, Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich, Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, Princess Grace of Monaco and Audrey Hepburn. http://www.givenchy.com/
