Guiseppe Garibaldi was a key figure in the unification of Italy. In the 1830's, he fled to South America after participating in Mazzini's failed Carbonari revolution. While living there, he fought in Brazil's War of the Farrapos and the Uruguayan civil war. These experiences earned him the nickname "Hero of Two Worlds."Bartleby.com: Garibaldi, Giuseppe VoceItaliana.comGeneral Giuseppe Garibaldi: Hero of Two Worlds
