History of Giro D'Italia
The Giro d'Italia is an annual professional cycling race. It is one of the three "Grand Tours" of cycling, along with the Vuelta de Espana and the more famous Tour de France. The winner of the 2009 Giro d'Italia was Denis Menchov of Team Rabobank, finishing just over Danilo Di Luca of the LPR squad. The event has taken place for over one hundred years and the first year of this event was 1909. Throughout the race there are twenty one different stages that take place on twenty one different days. The Giro d’Italia starts on May 8 and ends on May 30. The event will start in Amsterdam and after going through a variety of different mountains, it comes to an end in Verona.
2010 Giro d’Italia Teams
The organizers of the 2010 Giro d’Italia have announced the teams that will be competing in the cycling race. This year, there will be twenty two teams participating in the race. Only fifteen of the Pro-Tour teams made the list with Euskaltel-Euskadi and Française des Jeux being left out. The RadioShack team of Lance Armstrong and other United States cyclists was also left off the list, but there had been doubts since January as to whether the American team wanted to contest the event given the Tour of California's move to May.
Another huge surprise was the Italian based ISD-Neri team who raced competitively in last year’s race. Their line-up includes 2005 King of the Mountains winner Jose Rujano, former under-23 world champion Dmytro Grabovskyy and former Italian national champion Giovanni Visconti.
The Dutch teams Skil-Shimano and Vacansoleil have to be extremely disappointed as well. This event takes place in their home city and neither of the two teams are able to compete in the event. The committee that decides what teams are allowed to race informed both of these teams’ months ago that they would not be in the competition. http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/3539/2010-Giro-dItalia-teams-announced-RadioShack-missing-ISD-Neri-overlooked.aspx
