In 2007, Lavigne, Dr. Luke, RCA Records and Apple were sued by James Gangwer and Tommy Dunbar of the band The Rubinoos for copyright infringement. Gangwer and Dunbar claimed "Girlfriend" resembled their 1979 song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend".
