Gilbert Hernandez is an American comic book artist and writer.
Career
Gilbert Hernandez was introduced to comic books at an early age. Together with his his brothers Jaime and (to a lesser degree) Mario, Hernandez self-published the black and white comic book magazine Love and Rockets in 1981. Subsequent issues are published by Fantagraphics Books.
The bulk of Hernandez's work involves stories featuring characters and situations set in the imaginary Latin American town of Palomar. Elements of surrealism, magic realism, and melodrama are common in these multi-generational tales. Later stories feature some Palomar characters in the United States.
