Career
Gil Kane left high school at 16 to pursue his career as a comic book artist. As part of DC Comics in the 1950s, he drew most of the "Silver Age" Green Lantern issues, establishing the character's look that has remained mostly unchanged.During the 1960s, he did the artwork for Marvel Comics titles like Captain Marvel and The Amazing Spider-Man. For the latter series, he penciled the issue where the character Gwen Stacy (who was Spider-Man's love interest) was pushed off the George Washington Bridge and died.Comic Book DB: The Amazing Spider-Man #121
Kane received four National Cartoonists Society Awards throughout his career, including three for "Best Story Comic Book."National Cartoonists Society: Comic Books Awards He died in 2000 at the age of 73.
