Life Cycle
The parasite is reproduces through cell division inside its host's intestinal tract. During its life cycle the parasite will drop from its hold on the intestinal wall and form a cyst. The cyst is passed in fecal matter and can survive three months in cold water. The cyst can't survive freezing temperatures. If the cyst is ingested, the new host's stomach acid will signal it to come out of hibernation and it will begin to reproduce starting the cycle again.Yosemite Association: Giardiasis
