The New York Giants are one of the oldest National Football League franchises, and have been one of the most popular in all of professional sports. As a result, many fans will purchase an assortment of merchandise to show their support for the team. Among those items are T-shirts and jerseys.

Supporting Big Blue
Giants fans have always been very vociferous in the support of the team. In the 1950s, they are believed to be the first group of sports fans to chant 'defense' in support of the defensive unit. This lead to the defensive starters being introduced before each game. Until the 1970s, most people attending sporting events would wear dress clothing, like a shirt, tie, and sports coat, as if they were attending church services. But then fans began showing a desire to purchase jerseys that matched those of their favorite player, and the teams in the league noticed the opportunity to make money selling officially licensed merchandise, including other apparel such as hats and T-shirts.Super T-Shirts
In January of 2008, an sharp increase in the sale of Giants apparel came about due to the team's qualifying for Super Bowl XLII. Each year when teams qualify for the big game, they produce conference championship t-shirts, in conjunction with the league. Then when a team wins the Super Bowl, the league and winning team both try to capitalize on the moment by offering a Super Bowl championship t-shirt immediately following the game.
