Giant Squid

  • Giant squid, scientific name Architeuthis dux, are the world's largest invertebrates. They range from 30 to 60 feet in length, have two tentacles, eight arms and contain ink, a common trait of all squid. The exact habitat and behavior of these elusive creatures is unknown. The giant squid has never been studied in the wild.

The first photos of the giant squid were taken in 2004 by a team of researchers from Japan. In 2006, the same team videotaped the giant squid for the first time.FOX News: Japanese Researchers Capture Giant Squid (December 22, 2006)
