Geronimo

Categories: Social Science
  • Geronimo was an Apache Indian military and spiritual leader who fought against the United States government. He led many raids against Mexican and United States forces in rebellion against Native American relocation programs. For 25 years, Geronimo successfully defended his tribal lands from the encroaching white settlers and U.S. military forces. He eventually surrendered and was held as a prisoner of war in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for several years before his death in 1909, at age 89.
