  • German shorthaired pointers are well-rounded dogs who enjoy being with people. They were bred as hunting dogs, used mostly in the field. They have a good amount of energy and, like many of the other hunting breeds, require daily exercise.
  • Health Problems

    German shorthaired pointers commonly suffer from respiratory issues as their muzzle is narrow and compact. Larger animals may also have hip problems as well as issues with their eyes and ears.
  • Sports or Activities

    Much like when they were originally bred, German shorthaired pointers are commonly used for hunting as they have a natural hunting sense. They are highly trainable and loyal. As well as daily exercise, they require considerable amounts of water to prevent dehydration.
