Gerald Laird is a catcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball.
On December 7, 2008, Gerald Laird was traded from the Texas Rangers to the Detroit Tigers. The Rangers received pitchers Guillermo Moscoso and Carlos Melo in the deal. Gerald Laird was born in Westminster, California on November 13, 1979. He attended high school at La Quinta and continued his education at Cypress College. In 1998, Laird was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. On April 30, 2003, Gerald Laird made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers. In his first season with the Rangers, Laird appeared in 19 games. In 2004, Laird appeared in 49 games and recorded a batting average of .224 with 16 runs batted in. Laird appeared in a career best 120 games in 2007.
