  • Pro Career

    Soto was signed by the Chicago Cubs in the 11th round, 318th overall pick in the 2001 amateur draft. In 2003, Soto was named a Florida State League All Star. In 2004 he moved to the Southern League and once again was named an all star. After spending a few years solely in the minor leagues, he was added to the Chicago Cubs 40 man roster in November 2004. Soto made his Major League Baseball debut on September 23, 2005, catching for the Chicago Cubs.

    In 2006 he played for the Triple A Iowa Cubs before being promoted again to the Chicago Cubs where he got his first Major League Baseball hit on September 3rd against the San Francisco Giants. Soto started the 2007 season back in the minor leagues and rejoined the Chicago Cubs in July, then in September flourished batting .426. Soto started a game in the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks contributing with a home run. He appears to be the Chicago Cubs full time catcher after previous starter Jason Kendall signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. One area of improvement appears to be Soto's throwing as he allowed more stolen bases than any other catcher in 2008 spring training games.
