The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 10.4 percent in April. All over the state, the yearly losses came from manufacturing, construction, trade, transportation and utilities. Professional, business services and financial activities suffered losses too. The Augusta area however, gained jobs in professional and business services, retail trade, health services and federal and state government. It fared better compared to most metro areas in the state. Savannah reported job loss of 3,600 for the year, most of those coming in manufacturing, transportation and warehousing. Georgia's unemployment benefit, which is also called Unemployment Insurance benefits, is an income which will be given to workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. They are either looking for another job, have a definite recall to their jobs within six weeks of the last day worked or are in approved training. The requirements to become eligible are based on past wages, reason for job separation and availability and job search requirements. This benefit lasts up to 26 weeks. The fourth Tier emergency unemployment compensation provides up to six weeks additional benefits for those individuals who have exhausted 3rd Tier and still find themselves unemployed.
