    The Georgia school of technology was established on October 13, 1885. The name changed in 1948, to Georgia Institute of Technology. Among the notable dates in the history of Georgia Tech include 1952, when women students were admitted and 1961, when the university became the first institution of higher learning in the deep south to admit African Americans without a court order.Gatech.edu: History
