Georgi Parvanov is the current President of Bulgaria. Up until his inauguration, he was a member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, and openly admits to his past employment as a secret agent in the Communist State Security Services. He is the first former Communist to be elected president since 1986, and the first person in the country to be re-elected president.
Not-So-Secret Agent
In 2006, Parvanov openly admitted that he had been a secret agent in the Communist-run State Security Services. He revealed that he went by the name "Agent Gotse," after the revolutionary Gotse Delchev. When a special commission opened his file on July 19, 2007, it was determined that Parvanov had been collaborated with the secret police between 1989 and 1993. Reportedly, there was also a large portion of the file that had gone missing.
