  Following California's new gay marriage ruling, George Takei announced on his website that he would marry his long term partner Brad Altman. Altman and Takei have been together for over 20 years. The two plan to be wed in September 2008.

• Coming Out Project

  Takei is an activist for gay rights. In 2005, he revealed that he was gay and was in a long term relationship with Brad Altman. Takei is the spokesperson for the "The Coming Out Project" and for the Human Rights Campaign, a gay, lesbian and transgender political lobbying group.
