• Texas-born country singer-songwriter George Strait has released 56 number-one singles, the highest number of any artist in any genre on the Billboard charts. His first number-one was 1982's "Fool Hearted Memory." He is one of the best-selling country artists of all time.

• Career

  Strait began his career playing in a rock band in high school before making the switch to country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after he married and starting singing with the Army band "Rambling Country". After his honorable discharge he graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University) with a degree in agriculture. Nominated 9 times for a Grammy Award but has never won.
