George M. Zinkhan III

  • George M. Zinkhan III, a professor of Marketing and Business at the University of Georgia at Athens, is believed to have shot his wife and two other people to death at the Athens Community Theater picnic on Saturday, April 25, 2009.     On May 15, 2009, a week after Zinkhan's body was discovered, his son finally stepped forward to claim his remains. Zinkhan will be cremated, and his ashes flown to his son George M.   • Discovery of Zinkhan's Body

    On May 9, 2009, a body was found about a mile from where Zinkhan's abandoned 2005 Jeep Liberty was discovered on May 1. Authorities confirmed that Zinkhan committed suicide and attempted to conceal his own body with foliage in a shallow ditch.   • Fled to Europe?

  • Shooting at a Theatre

    Authorities say that about 12:30 p.m. on April 25, 2009, the Town and Gown Players group were having a homecoming lunch for current and former members.     It is alleged that he returned to the lunch with two handguns and started shooting. He shot five people in total, killing three and injuring two others and then walked away from the site. The victims killed included his ex-wife Marie Bruce, Ben Teague and Tom Tanner.
