Baseball Career
Kell joined the MLB by signing as an undrafted free agent with the Brooklyn Dodgers prior to the 1940 season. Before making his professional debut, he was traded first to Lancaster, then to the Philadelphia Athletics, where he played in his first MLB game on September 28, 1943.Baseball-Reference.com: George Kell Statistics
In 1946, Kell was traded to the Detroit Tigers. He went on to earn his first of 10 MLB All-Star Game selections in 1947 and lead the American League with a .343 batting average in 1949. He was sent to the Boston Red Sox in 1952, then to the Chicago White Sox two years later.
