The Jacobites resurfaced in 1745 with a plot to replace George II with James II's grandson, Charles Edward Stuart. Although successful in initial battles, they suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Culloden. Many of them were subsequently executed.MSN Encarta: Jacobites
