Studying the Earth
The purpose of studying geology is to discover information about Earth's history. Geologists study processes such as landslides and earthquakes to learn about past events and to prevent dangerous situations in the future. By learning patterns of activity, geologists can attempt to predict what will happen in the future in order to be prepared for it. Studying rock types can lead geologists to discover sources of natural gas and oil. These resources can then be obtained through exploration.Geology.com: What is Geology?
